Bringing a New Regulator to Life: Educational Motion Graphics for NPSRD

Challenge
A new regulatory body needed to introduce itself to industry and the Australian public, explaining its role within the existing regulatory landscape. The brief called for two educational motion graphic videos that made an unfamiliar, technical subject feel clear and approachable, built on a flexible brand system with room for 3D elements.
Approach
We ran a staged, collaborative process including art direction, brand direction, style frames, animatics and client reviews at each step before any animation began.
The client wanted to feel trustworthy, not intimidating, and a dark, futuristic approach wouldn’t get them there. So we focused on a lighter, warmer, friendlier illustration style, and a demo animatic blending 2D characters with a 3D globe won quick approval.
For this video we undertook a detailed storyboarding process, working scene by scene and pairing each frame with its script line and a note on the motion involved, refining across a couple of revision rounds.
The production process involved blending full 3D animation, 2.5D (2D characters in 3D space), and 2D motion graphics using Adobe’s 3D camera. The client had originally planned to send a team member into our studio to record the voiceover, but those plans changed, so we generated voiceover using ElevenLabs and refined it to sound natural, then finished the videos with sound design and audio levelling. Producing both videos back to back let us reuse environments and assets from the first into the second, gaining efficiency without losing quality.
Impact
The use of blending 3D, 2.5D and 2D techniques enabled us to deliver two polished, on-brand videos that met the intent of introducing the regulator warmly, making them feel trustworthy and not intimidating. This was backed by a reusable asset library for future content.

Brand spanking new! Building a bold brand for ACTivate Capital
Venture capital is a cluttered market, and brands tend to stick to a few norms: if it’s not an abstract image of “tech,” it’s a picture of a skyscraper. But this wasn’t going to work for ACTivate Capital.
Building a fresh intranet experience inside a restricted system
RD Consulting was engaged to redesign a Department of Health intranet serving two distinct audiences with very different needs and workflows — all within the constraints of an enterprise SharePoint platform not exactly known for design flexibility.
Consolidating structure and content across four court websites
Imagine needing court information at one of the worst moments of your life, only to be met with a maze of menus designed for lawyers, not humans in crisis.
